Cardano, with the native currency symbol ADA, is a public, decentralized, and so-called "third-generation" blockchain platform launched in 2017 by Charles Hoskinson (one of the co-founders of Ethereum) with the goal of solving the fundamental challenges of older networks like Bitcoin and Ethereum regarding scalability, slowness, and energy consumption. The prominent and distinct feature of Cardano is its highly academic, scientific, and evidence-based approach; such that all protocols and updates of this network are peer-reviewed by researchers and reputable universities worldwide before implementation.
The architecture of this network is also very smart and consists of two separate layers: the Settlement Layer (CSL), which is responsible for recording financial transactions and transferring ADA tokens, and the Computation Layer (CCL), which provides the infrastructure for executing smart contracts and decentralized applications (DApps). This separation ensures that the network will have high upgradeability and flexibility in the future without disrupting financial transactions.
Cardano uses its own advanced Proof of Stake (PoS) consensus algorithm called Ouroboros, which not only drastically reduces energy consumption compared to the Proof of Work mechanism, but also ensures very high mathematical security and allows users to participate in securing the network and receive rewards by staking their coins.
Despite advantages such as environmental sustainability, very low fees, and unparalleled security, Cardano has always been criticized by faster competitors like Solana due to its slow and meticulous development process. Additionally, its smart contract programming language (Plutus, which is based on Haskell) seems complex to many developers. However, the Cardano team, having passed important updates and entered the final phase of its roadmap, the Voltaire era, has steered the system towards fully decentralized on-chain governance, so that ADA holders can directly vote on the future, protocol changes, and treasury fund allocation without the need for any central foundation.
Cardano, known as the Japanese Ethereum, has become one of the most important cryptocurrencies. Cardano combines the features of Bitcoin and Ethereum, but also possesses other features specific to Web3.0 (Decentralized third-generation internet), which helps Cardano overcome upcoming limitations.
One of Cardano's unique approaches is that it is based on a scientific philosophy and expert review with scientific evidence. This means that all changes and new features must be reviewed and accepted by academic experts before being implemented in the ADA currency. Given the bright future of this currency and its competition with Ethereum, buying Cardano cryptocurrency is highly regarded by whales.
